Commencement Day Schedule

7 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

5:00 p.m. CART Shuttle begins from Lloyd Noble Center, 2900 S. Jenkins Ave., Norman, OK. (The CART will run continuously from 5 to 11 p.m. All guests, faculty and graduates are encouraged to park at Lloyd Noble Center and take the FREE CART Shuttle to Commencement).

5:30 p.m. Gates open at The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Doctoral degree candidates and their hooding faculty report to Nielson Hall, Room 170 for check-in and photos.

6:15 p.m. Pre-Commencement concert / presentation of senior portraits taken for the OU yearbook, Sooner 2015, for Commencement guests

6:30 p.m. All other graduates and non-hooding faculty report to Brooks Mall for line-up. Doctoral degree candidates and their hooding faculty move to the area in front of Bizzell Library for the processional line-up.

7:00 p.m. Commencement Begins! Guests should be seated for the processional as graduation candidates process into the stadium accompanied by flags, banners and music

11:00 p.m. Last CART Shuttle pick-up


General Commencement Information

When & Where

The University of Oklahoma community looks forward to celebrating our graduates' academic accomplishments at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, 180 W. Brooks Street. Stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m. The pre-commencement concert will begin at 6:15 p.m. Guests are asked to be in their seats by 7 p.m. for the processional. Parking and Shuttle Services
Parking is available at the Lloyd Noble Center, located at 2900 S. Jenkins Ave. Free shuttle services to the stadium will begin at 5 p.m. and run continuously until 11 p.m. Shuttles will drop off and pick up guests on Jenkins Ave on the east side of the stadium at Gates 7 & 11/12. Accessing the Stadium
Please allow sufficient time for accessing the stadium and finding a seat. Guests are asked to be in their seats by 7 p.m. for the processional. Shuttle service and entrance to the stadium will be halted at 7 p.m. for the processional and will resume once all graduation candidates have been seated.

Guests with seating passes for the Special Services sections may enter through Gate 9. Seating in the Special Services section is reserved for guests with a disability, limited mobility, or other special needs and one additional guest. Prohibited Items and Searches

Students and guests attending the University of Oklahoma’s 2015 Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 8, are asked to leave behind certain items that are prohibited because of security reasons.  All who enter The Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, 180 W. Brooks St., for Commencement are subject to search, as are all carried items.

Except for items pertaining to medical conditions or child care, all bags, backpacks, large cases for binoculars or other items, fanny packs and large purses (larger than 10-inch-by-10-inch) are prohibited. Prohibited items must be returned to the owner’s car or discarded, and any unlawful items are subject to confiscation.

Other prohibited items include:

·         alcoholic and other beverages (empty water bottles will be allowed and water is available for purchase inside the stadium)

·         balloons

·         banners and signs

·         beach balls

·         explosives

·         fanny packs

·         food and beverages

·         folding chairs or stools (stadium seats with armrests without pockets are allowed; stadium seats will be available for rental for $5 each)

·         ice chests, coolers and other similar containers

·         laser pointers

·         all noise makers (e.g., air horns, whistles)

·         pets (other than service animals)

·         personal heaters

·         umbrellas

·         weapons

Items that are allowed for Commencement and Convocations only include stadium seats as described above, cameras and video cameras, baby strollers and baby seats.

Guests also are reminded that all facilities of the University of Oklahoma are tobacco, electronic cigarette and vaping device-free. The use of all tobacco products including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes and vaping devices is prohibited anywhere on the OU grounds or campus. 



Tickets are not required to attend Commencement. The University community would like our graduates to share this special occasion with all of your family and friends. 


Commencement Programs
Commencement programs will be available to guests at each entrance ramp into the stadium seating. See a map of The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium noting locations for programs here. Students will receive a Commencement program when they arrive at Brooks Mall for the processional. See a map of the Brooks Mall area here. Programs will include names, major(s), and honors of the summer and fall 2014 graduates and the spring 2015 graduation candidates. Students who wish to not have their name printed in the Commencement Program may indiciate this on their graduation application or by contacting OU Records at (405) 325-4147.


Graduates and guests will be seated on the east side of the stadium. Click here for a seating diagram.

Commencement Ambassadors will be located at each ramp entrance to answer questions and direct traffic. The Commencement Ambassadors will display signs noting when a section has filled and direct guests to open seating. When a section has filled, please move to the next available open seating.

Guests will not have assigned seats. Arriving early will help ensure guests will locate desired seating.


Pre-Commencement Concert
For the enjoyment of our Commencement guests, the University Chamber Ensemble directed by Dr. Zielinski and the OU Wind Ensemble directed by Dr. William K. Wakefield will perform a concert starting at 6:15 p.m. During the Pre-Commencement concert, guests can enjoy watching a presentation of photos taken for the Sooner yearbook.


Graduate Processional
Commencement will begin when the graduates process into the stadium, accompanied by flags, banners and music.

Doctoral degree candidates and their hooding faculty will gather at 5:30 p.m. at Nielson Hall, Room 170 to prepare for the processional. See the full diagram of the Brooks Mall area here.

Bachelor’s and master’s degree candidates will gather at 6:30 p.m. at the Brooks Mall. Signs and assistants will direct candidates to where their college will be forming a line.
