Belonging Week 2023

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is excited to extend a warm invitation to Belonging Week 2023 from September 18 to September 22. This year’s theme is “Impact Starts With Belonging.”


Monday

Oklahoma Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and or Hard of Hearing

Date: Monday, Sept. 18

Time: 11 a.m. to Noon

Location: Schusterman Learning Center 136, OU-Tulsa

Join representatives from the Oklahoma Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and or hard of hearing for a session on learning how to advocate and assist deaf and or hard-of-hearing individuals and the important role of interpreters.

Conversation Café Session One: Hosted by BIC

Neighborhood Table - Collaboration Event with the Career Center and Paycom 

Date: Tuesday, Sept. 19

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Location: Gould Hall, Rooms 125 & 130, OU-Norman

Neighborhood Table is back and better than ever! This year, we are partnering with the Career Center and Paycom to create an “Empowered Workers” series that will bring in our successful alumni for a mini career fair and an opportunity to connect with a mentor within a specific field of study.

Join us for a delicious free lunch provided by our local vendors, including Taste of India and Jollof’s Jollof. This will be an excellent opportunity to mingle with company recruiters and discuss their organization's DEI initiatives.

OU Study Abroad Fair

Location: South Oval, OU-Norman

Discover the world with OU Abroad and the Division of DEI at the annual Study Abroad Fair! Explore the wide-ranging academic programs and locations, alongside more information on OU Abroad’s scholarships and resources.

The fair will also feature free food trucks, giveaways, and more.

“A Family Tradition” Food Truck

“Lumina Presentation from Student LGBTQIA+ Committee”

Lumina is inviting new members to join and participate in activities and initiatives related to the LGBTQIA+ community. If interested, please stop by the presentation for information on membership in the student-led group.

Movie in the Park with the ADRC: “Dungeons and Dragons”

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 20

Time: 5 p.m.

Location: South Oval, OU-Norman

Lights, camera and action! Movie in the Park with ADRC is here, and this time, we are screening “Dungeons and Dragons,” rated “PG-13,” a captivating film that will spark meaningful conversations about accessibility and disability in the film industry. Join us on the South Oval for an enchanting outdoor movie experience under the stars. Please bring your friends and family and be part of the conversation to make our campus more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

Still Mining the Forgotten: The Hidden History and Legacies of Black Catholic Nuns in the United States, a lecture by Shannen Dee Williams, Ph.D.

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 20

Time: 5 p.m.

Location: Sam Noble Museum of Natural History Auditorium 2401, Chautauqua Avenue, OU-Norman

Drawing on oral histories and previously sealed Church records, Williams uncovers the rich tradition of Black sisters and nuns as pioneering religious leaders, educators, health care professionals and front-line participants in the civil rights movement. By surmounting longstanding segregation and racism in Catholic religious orders and educational institutions, Black Catholic nuns also helped inform and transform the Church’s stance on racial equality in America.

The lecture is part of an annual series hosted by the St. Thomas More University Parish and the OU Catholic Student Association known as the True Family Lecture.
