Assignment: Read p. 228-231 and p.243 in the text. Identify a
causal argument topic for your essay. Read the sample essays in the
packet on p. 6-17. Make a list of good features of each argument
and also of problems you noticed. Write a journal page.
Feb. 13 Discuss sample essays, Error Log directions
Assignment: Write a description of the phenomenon or trend you will
write your Causal Argument essay about. Write your causal claim and list
your reasons. Read p.361-363 and p. 370-378 in the text.
Feb. 15 Dr. Beverly Joyce--Guest Speaker on Library Research Online
Assignment: Read p. 394-404 and the excerpt you receive in class.
Write a 50-75 word summary of the excerpt. Prepare
the Works Cited exercise on a disk for Feb. 22. Write an Audience
Analysis using the questions online. Write a journal page.

Using Sources exercise, Share claims and reasons
Assignment: Read p. 245-247. List conditions of rebuttal for your argument
and the ideas you have for responding to them. Bring your finished Works
Cited exercise on disk to the next class.
Feb. 22 Correct Works Cited exercise, Where causal arguments
go wrong, Conditions of Rebuttal
Assignment: Prepare the first draft of your Causal Argument essay and
bring 2 copies of it to the next class. Prepare your own Works Cited page
for this essay and bring it to the next class. Write a journal page.
Feb. 27 Exchange essays, Proofread Works Cited pages, Formatting
and Polishing your essay
Assignment: Write thorough, helpful revision letters for your classsmates
based on the guidelines discussed in class. Bring two copies of each
letter that you write
March 1 Discuss Revision ideas.
Assignment: Revise and polish your Causal Argument Essay.
It is due in class on March 6. Bring 2 copies of your finished
essay, 1 copy of an earlier draft, 1 copy of your audience analysis, the
two letters you received from your classmates,and photocopied and highlighted
copies of pages from sources that you cited in the essay. No journal
assignment this week.
