Fitness and Recreation is fortunate to have a talented team of professionals with various backgrounds, interests, hobbies, and areas of expertise.  Join our experts for helpful tips and information related to a wide variety of fitness, wellness, and lifestyle topics.  

Sessions are open to the OU Community at no charge.  Advanced registration is required.  Use the OU FIT+REC App to register for sessions and receive Zoom link information.  If attending an in-person session, please bring your Sooner ID card.  Check in a few minutes early to the session.

 

Nutrition for Newbies (via Zoom): October 14, 12:30 – 1:15 p.m.
Learn the basics of nutrition and tips/tricks to lead a nutritious lifestyle.

Free Weight Fundamentals (In Person): October 17, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
Learn fundamental moves in the free weight room, including proper technique and safety. Space is limited – please register in advance.

Developing a Self-Care Plan (via Zoom): October 19, 3 – 3:45 p.m.
Gain perspective on the meaning of self-care, consider your current needs, and develop or modify a self-care plan.

Electric Smoker Use for Ribs and Steaks (via Zoom): October 27, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m.
Learn a few easy techniques for preparing meats for electric smoker cooking and using thermostats to create a perfect level of doneness for thick cut meats.

How to Become a Sports Official (via Zoom): November 4, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m.
“I can do better than these officials!”  “These refs are terrible!”  Have you ever yelled these statements during a contest?  Come learn about what it takes to join the other team during the competition.

Shooting Sports Photography with a DSLR (via Zoom): November 5, 10 – 10:45 a.m.
An introduction to the basics of DSLR photography, with an emphasis on shooting sports photography.  Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to join, regardless of access to a DSLR camera. 

Exercising at Its Finest (via Zoom): November 9, 4 – 4:45 p.m.
Discover how exercise works at the neuromuscular and cardiovascular level and why exercise is truly the best medicine.
