Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts Admission

All but one degree in the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts requires a 2.50 grade point average.  Effective with the summer 2013 incoming class, the Music Education degree requires a 2.75 grade point average.

In addition to the grade point average requirement, students interested in any of the Fine Arts (except Art History majors) must audition or submit a portfolio and be accepted before declaring their Fine Arts major.

OU School of Visual Arts

The OU School of Visual Arts serves approximately 400 undergraduate and graduate level students in art history; art, technology and culture; studio; and visual communication with a faculty of 26 full-time artists, designers and scholars. The school is divided into five broad areas: foundations, studio arts, art history; art, technology and culture; and visual communication. All art majors (except Art History) begin in the BA in Art program. Students can apply for one of the BFA in ART programs once they have completed the four CORE classes. See degree checksheet for application requirements.

OU School of Dance

School of Dance

The School of Dance is considered one of the leading programs in the nation for training in ballet and modern dance technique. The school emphasizes performance and boasts two performing companies. In addition to applying to OU, undergraduate applicants are required to audition at one of the two audition dates offered by the School of Dance each year. Graduate applicants must submit a resume, a video containing a personal performance, as well as their choreography and three recommendations, to the School of Dance in addition to OU applications. An audition and interview will be scheduled following graduate faculty review of the video and application materials.

The Helmerich School of Drama

The Helmerich School of Drama prepares students for professional careers in theatre, film and theatre education. Coursework on the undergraduate level includes acting; directing; movement and dance; voice and diction stage combat; graphics; stagecraft; theatre history; costume history; construction and design; lighting and scenic design; and play structure and analysis. In addition to applying to OU, admission to the Helmerich School of Drama requires an on-campus audition (for Acting concentration), portfolio review (for Design or Technology concentrations) or an interview (for Stage Management or Dramaturgy concentrations).

OU School of Music

The School of Music is Oklahoma’s only comprehensive music school. A full complement of faculty artists and scholars offers instruction in all traditional instruments and voice, music education, musicology, music composition, and music theory. In addition to applying to OU, admission to all undergraduate music degree programs (and some graduate programs) is contingent upon an applied music audition. Prospective students should refer to the School of Music Audition page.

The Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre is the only School of Musical Theatre within a public university in the country. It provides its students with the best of two worlds—conservatory-style training within a dynamic liberal arts university environment.
