If you love to sing, come join the OU Choral Union. Our goal is to unite the voices of OU and area high school students, alumni, faculty, staff with members of the local community to learn and perform great choral music. The OU Choral Union, under the direction of Richard Zielinski (Dr. Z) and Dr. David Howard will perform exciting choral literature. Everyone is welcome to join this ensemble. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to be OU staff, faculty or student?
A: The Choral Union is open to all staff, students, and alumni, as well as to the community at large.
Q: Do students need to enroll for credit to sing in Choral Union?
A: Students may enroll for credit in order to participate, but it is not a requirement to enroll to sing in Choral Union. *note to students - OU Choral Union will not satisfy large ensemble requirements for music majors
Q: Can high school students or other community members participate?
A: Adult community members, high school students and music teachers are all welcome to sing in Choral Union.
Q: How many rehearsals are scheduled for each concert?
A: There are only 3-5 rehearsals plus a dress rehearsal for each concert. Check the rehearsal schedule for more details
Q: How much experience is required to sing in Choral Union?
A: Choral union is open to singers with all levels of choral experience. If you love to sing, you are welcome to join us!
Q: Do I need to purchase an outfit to sing with the OU Choral Union?
A: No. All OU Choral Union members can perform in either concert black (all lack clothing) or a standard tux/black dress.
Q: Will I need to purchase music to sing with the OU Choral Union?
A: No. All music will be provided for you, but you will need to return the music after the performance.
Q: Do I need to attend every scheduled rehearsal to sing with the OU Choral Union?
A: Since there are limited rehearsals, we ask that you make every effort to attend every rehearsal. However, if a conflict does arise, please contact Dr. Zielinski as soon as possible.
Q: Will there be learning tools/homework assignments?
Since rehearsals are limited, online resources such as cyberbass and Learning notes will be provided to assist students in the learning process outside regular rehearsals.
