Dr. Donald P. Linn currently serves as the interim Associate Director of Bands at the University of Oklahoma. His responsibilities at OU include directing the Symphony Band and instructing conducting students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Linn is nationally recognized as an active guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. He has presented clinics and research at state conferences, regional CBDNA conferences, CBDNA athletic band conferences, and national CBDNA conferences. He served the Big 12 Band Directors Association as their secretary from 2010 – 2018 and has recently begun involvement with the NBA/CBDNA William P. Foster project which provides support and recognition for school bands in traditionally underserved communities.
In 2015, directors Dr. Frank Tracz, Dr. Linn, and the Kansas State University Pride of Wildcat Land Marching Band won the prestigious Sudler Trophy which recognizes the highest level of excellence and innovation among university marching bands. Dr. Linn actively serves the marching arts as an adjudicator, clinician, arranger, and drill writer. His shows have been performed by numerous high school and university bands throughout the country, most recently by the Kansas State University Pride of Wildcat Land and the Arizona State University Sun Devil Marching Band.
In both wind ensemble and athletic band settings, Dr. Linn has collaborated with world-class musicians including Michael Daugherty, Carter Pann, Vince DiMartino, Wiff Rudd, Domingo Pagliuca, Jack Brndiar, Jim Rupp, Anna Marie Wytko, Steven Maxwell, Robert Denham, Bob Spradling, Paula Crider, Sam Pilafian, and the Boston Brass.
Dr. Linn previously served as Director of Bands at Missouri Southern State University, Assistant Director of Bands at Kansas State University, Director of Athletic Bands at Youngstown State University, and Director of Bands at Nottoway High School in Crewe, Virginia. He holds a doctorate in conducting from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree in conducting from Ball State University, and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Virginia Tech.
