
Sarah Ellis teaches both graduate and undergraduate music theory. Her research focuses on the creation of meaning within musical works and draws on a variety of critical approaches to meaning including semiotics, deconstruction and Lacanian psychoanalysis. She has given presentations on her research throughout the United States and Europe. Her book Composing the Modern Subject: Four String Quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich, was published by Ashgate press in 2008.
