Robert Bailey, Ph.D.

Robert Bailey is Associate Professor of Art History and Interim Director of the Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of the Art of the American West in the School of Visual Arts at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh.

Bailey researches and teaches the history, criticism, and theory of modern and contemporary art as well as the historiography and methodology of art history while also maintaining a creative practice. He is broadly interested in how artists and art historians politicize relations of theory and practice amidst changing social, environmental, and technological conditions.
