Art Museum Offers Free Admission, Store Discounts
NORMAN, OKLA. – In the spirit of giving, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is opening its doors with free admission between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The museum on the University of Oklahoma campus will offer free admission for all visitors Dec. 26, 28, 29 and 30.

Cutting Edge Architecture Exhibit Opens Oct. 9 at FJJMA
NORMAN, OKLA. – Although his architectural structures dot the Oklahoma landscape from Norman to Bartlesville, Bruce Goff is celebrated internationally for his innovative design, nontraditional choice of materials and creative ingenuity. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma pays tribute to Goff in a new exhibition opening Saturday, Oct. 9.

FJJMA Offers Free Bruce Goff Leture Dec. 3
NORMAN, OKLA. – In light of a new exhibition celebrating the architecture of Bruce Goff, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art will present a free public lecture at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, featuring Christina Hoehn, assistant professor of interior design at the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture, on Goff's effect on the University's architecture department.

FJJMA Combines Architecture, Music, Lecture Oct. 13-15
NORMAN, OKLA. – In the spirit of Bruce Goff, who often was inspired by music while designing architecture, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art invites the public to two free concerts. Chicago-based Third Coast Percussion will preform at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, and at 8 p.m.on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Catlett Music Center.

Fall Brings Tuesday Noon Concerts Back to FJJMA
NORMAN, OKLA. – A popular weekly series combining live music and art returns this fall to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. A collaboration of the University of Oklahoma School of Music and the FJJMA, Tuesday Noon Concerts offer a 30-minute concert each Tuesday at noon through Nov. 30.

OU Art Museum Exhibits Second Van Gogh Painting
NORMAN, OKLA. – Visitors to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art may be well familiar with the iconic painting by Vincent van Gogh, Portrait of Alexander Reid. For a limited time, visitors will get a rare opportunity to see two works by Van Gogh in the same museum in Oklahoma.

NORMAN, OKLA. – In its continuing effort to reach out to students, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art recently announced the formation of a new OU student organization. The Art Museum Ambassadors will encourage student involvement at the museum with direct feedback to museum staff, improved grassroots marketing initiatives and other special opportunities.

Celebrated Photographer to Lecture at OU Art Museum
NORMAN, OKLA. – The Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West will present a lecture by Mark Klett, Regents’ Professor, School of Art, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Arizona State University. He will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2010, in the Mary Eddy and Fred Jones Auditorium at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, 555 Elm Avenue, in the OU Arts District.

Wanderlust Drives Travel Photography Exhibition at FJJMA
NORMAN, OKLA. – Author John Steinbeck, in his 1962 book Travels with Charley: In Search of America, said Americans were defined by “a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any here ... nearly every American hungers to move.” Wanderlust: Travel and American Photography examines the role American highways and interstates have played in the migratory desires of the American people. The new exhibition opens at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Friday, June 4, with a special public opening reception at 7 p.m.

Unique Museum Concert Celebrates Rauschenberg May 28
NORMAN, OKLA. – What does a collage sound like? Does modern art make a sound? Stringed instruments, a record player, percussion and vacuum cleaners will be featured in a free concert 5 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The experimental concert draws its inspiration from the works of modern artist Robert Rauschenberg.

NORMAN, OKLA. – Three of Norman’s powerhouse arts organizations are joining forces for a fun afternoon in the park. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Firehouse Art Center and Jacobson House are teaming up to present Luncheon on the Grass, a free picnic scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at Lions Park.

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art has added another component to an already value-packed experience for visitors. In collaboration with the University of Oklahoma Information Technology department and Apple Inc., the museum now offers free iPod tours to all visitors.

Museums, CART Team Up For "Green Day" Volunteer Effort
Norman, OKLA. – As temperatures rise and trees come into bud, more people will be spending time outside, and a team from the Sam Noble Museum, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit system (CART) aims to make outside a little greener place to be. On Saturday, April 17, the team will co-host "Green Day 2010," a combined effort to clean up trash and cut down emissions in Norman.

OU Receives Major Gift of Native American Art
NORMAN, OKLA. – University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced Thursday that the university has received one of the most important private collections of Native American art in the country. The gift comes to OU from the private collection of James T. Bialac of Arizona.

NORMAN, OKLA. – While many Americans faced hardships in the 1930s, Will Rogers said, “I’m one of the luckiest guys alive.” Doug Watson, who has been portraying Rogers in live characterizations for the past 15 years, hopes to bring a dose of that luck to a crowd at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 5, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

Author Discusses Chicago WPA Murals Feb. 17 at FJJMA
NORMAN, OKLA. – In the first half of the 20th century, hundreds of murals were painted for the Chicago Public School system. After decades of neglect, many were torn down, painted over or faced permanent loss due to severe deterioration. In recent years, these historic murals have been preserved or restored, due to the most intensive mural preservation project in American history. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb.17, artist and author Heather Becker will deliver a lecture about the historic Chicago murals at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Calls for Additional Docents
NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Museum of Art is expanding its building— and its docent program. The museum currently is looking for volunteers who guide visitors of all ages through the museum. Prior knowledge of art is not required—applicants just need an enthusiasm for learning and for sharing knowledge with others.
