NORMAN, OKLA. – In the spirit of giving, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is opening its doors with free admission between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The museum on the University of Oklahoma campus will offer free admission for all visitors Dec. 26, 28, 29 and 30.

NORMAN, OKLA. – Although his architectural structures dot the Oklahoma landscape from Norman to Bartlesville, Bruce Goff is celebrated internationally for his innovative design, nontraditional choice of materials and creative ingenuity. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma pays tribute to Goff in a new exhibition opening            Saturday, Oct. 9.

NORMAN, OKLA. – In the spirit of Bruce Goff, who often was inspired by music while designing architecture, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art invites the public to two free concerts. Chicago-based Third Coast Percussion will preform at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, and at 8 p.m.on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Catlett Music Center.

The Art Museum Ambassadors will encourage student involvement at the museum with direct feedback to museum staff, improved grassroots marketing initiatives and other special opportunities.

NORMAN, OKLA. – Author John Steinbeck, in his 1962 book Travels with Charley: In Search of America, said Americans were defined by “a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any here ... nearly every American hungers to move.” Wanderlust: Travel and American Photography examines the role American highways and interstates have played in the migratory desires of the American people. Stringed instruments, a record player, percussion and vacuum cleaners will be featured in a free concert 5 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The experimental concert draws its inspiration from the works of modern artist Robert Rauschenberg.

Norman, OKLA. – As temperatures rise and trees come into bud, more people will be spending time outside, and a team from the Sam Noble Museum, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit system (CART) aims to make outside a little greener place to be. On Saturday, April 17, the team will co-host "Green Day 2010," a combined effort to clean up trash and cut down emissions in Norman.

NORMAN, OKLA. – In the first half of the 20th century, hundreds of murals were painted for the Chicago Public School system. After decades of neglect, many were torn down, painted over or faced permanent loss due to severe deterioration. In recent years, these historic murals have been preserved or restored, due to the most intensive mural preservation project in American history. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb.17, artist and author Heather Becker will deliver a lecture about the historic Chicago murals at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

Prior knowledge of art is not required—applicants just need an enthusiasm for learning and for sharing knowledge with others.
