ArtEDGE at OU, Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Combines Art, Technology for Norman Students
NORMAN, Okla. – Where do art and technology collide? Select Norman seventh- and eighth-grade students spent the fall visiting the University of Oklahoma to find out. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Bizzell Memorial Library and School of Visual Arts at OU collaborated to offer ArtEDGE to 50 students who spent a day on the Norman campus viewing, discussing and creating artwork. Student work from the event is now on display in the Education Gallery inside the museum.
Oklahoma History Events Scheduled in Conjunction With Art Exhibition Nov. 3-5
NORMAN, Okla. – A day symposium, family night and walking tour of Guthrie are all planned in conjunction with a new exhibition at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.
Over the course of three days, the museum will offer complimentary events tied to Picturing Indian Territory, 1819-1907, an exhibition that explores Oklahoma history through art, which opened at the University of Oklahoma art museum in early October.
NORMAN – College students are invited to unwind from midterm stress at a night of unique art projects, folk music and food at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Local band Annie Oakley will perform during the event as students take a look at the museum’s current exhibition, Picturing Indian Territory, 1819-1907. The complimentary event is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, on the University Oklahoma Norman campus.
Art Exhibition Exploring Oklahoma History Opens Oct. 6 at OU

Exhibition Celebrating Ballets Russes Opens Oct. 6 at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art
NORMAN, Okla. –The University of Oklahoma School of Dance, OU Libraries and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art are showcasing the Ballets Russes Special Collections and Archive and its connection to the University of Oklahoma with an array of exhibitions, lectures and an Oklahoma Festival Ballet production. Pop Artist Ed Ruscha and His Wife, Danna Ruscha Donate 30 Works of Art to OU Art Museum
NORMAN, Oklahoma – Ed Ruscha of Los Angeles – credited by art critics and collectors as one of the most important living artists of the Pop art movement – has donated 30 works from his private collection to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma. The art, which was given to the university by Ruscha and his wife, Danna Ruscha, is the most recent in a series of interactions between the artist, his family and the OU art museum.
Faculty Exhibition Closing With Public Reception Sept. 1
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA—After a nearly three-month run, the School of Art and Art History Faculty Exhibition at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is coming to a close. The public is invited to a reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the museum on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus.
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA— A University of Oklahoma alumnus with experience at three major museums is being appointed the Eugene B. Adkins Assistant Curator at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, pending approval of the OU Board of Regents.
Hadley Jerman will assume curatorial duties previously held by Mark White, who was named the Wylodean and Bill Saxon Director last year.
OU Art Museum to Open Two Summer Exhibitions June 14
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA— Sights, smells and sounds abound in two new summer exhibitions at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. The School of Art and Art History Faculty Exhibition returns after a 12-year absence from the museum, as well as a new installation of photography from the museum’s permanent collection. Both exhibitions open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, and run throughout the summer.
Native American Photography Exhibit at OU Supported by National Endowment for the Arts Grant
NORMAN – Historical photographs by noted 20th-century photographer Edward Curtis and new works by Navajo photographer Will Wilson to be shown together when the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art opens the exhibit, PHOTO/SYNTHESIS, in spring 2017. The exhibit is supported by a $40,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant recently awarded to the University of Oklahoma.
Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art to Mix It Up With Local Artist Skip Hill June 3
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA – Noted local artist Skip Hill will serve as both art collaborator and social celebrity during Media Mixer, a new hands-on event scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Throughout the evening, Hill will work with visitors to create a collage project in a casual environment designed for artists and art lovers alike.
Native Art Collector James Bialac to Give Public Tour of Exhibition at OU Art Museum May 12
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA— Few art collectors amass more than 5,000 works of art over their lifetime, and fewer still give those works to an institution in order to bolster education. Scottsdale, Arizona, attorney and collector James T. Bialac, who gifted his massive collection of Native American art to the University of Oklahoma for just that reason, will deliver a public gallery talk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.
102nd Student Exhibition Opens April 21 at OU Art Museum
NORMAN, OKLAHOMA— Once a year, a gallery inside the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is transformed into an exhibition space for students at the University of Oklahoma. The 102nd Annual School of Art and Art History Student Exhibition opens with a complimentary public reception at 7 p.m. Thursday, April. 21. The exhibition remains on display through Sunday, May 15, in the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery.

Toast to the Arts Museum Fundraiser Scheduled Feb. 26
NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art’s annual spring fundraiser, Toast to the Arts, is scheduled at the museum on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26. At the event, which is open to the public, guests explore the museum’s permanent collection coupled with cuisine and drinks unique to the artists’ nationalities.
Professor to Lead Virtual Stargazing Tour at OU Art Museum Jan. 28
NORMAN – The Records Gallery of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art will be transformed into a moonlit nightscape perfect for indoor stargazing on Thursday, Jan. 28. Galileo After Dark, beginning at 8 p.m., will offer visitors an astronomical discussion with an expert in astronomy, followed by an indoor stargazing tour. This event is offered in conjunction with Galileo’s World: An Artful Observation of the Cosmos, and exhibition that opened Jan. 22.
