OU Art Museum Celebrates Inaugural Holiday Train Event With All Aboard Family Night

NORMAN, OKLA. – For the first time this holiday season, model trains will take over a gallery in the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. Beginning Thursday evening on Dec. 13 with All Aboard Family Night, the trains will be on display through Dec. 30. Along with model trains, All Aboard will include banjo players, a cookie and hot cocoa bar, art activities, and holiday portraits with Santa Claus! The family-friendly event starts at 6 p.m. with a train lighting ceremony following at 7.

Espionage Themed Fundraiser to Raise Funds for Accessibility at OU Art Museum

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art’s annual fundraiser, Silver Soirée: A Party To Spy For is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 in the museum’s Sandy Bell Gallery. For the first time in the museum’s history, Silver Soirée will be hosted in the spacious Sandy Bell Gallery in the bottom floor of the museum. The gallery will be closed to the public for several weeks in order to transform the space into an immersive experience, transporting the guests to the sophisticated, espionage-riddled 1960s.

Historic Railway Posters and Paintings Exhibition Opens Oct. 5 at OU

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus opens its 2018 fall exhibition Ticket to Ride: Artists, Designers, and Western Railways, on Oct. 5. The exhibition features more than five dozen works by artists and commercial designers created between 1880 and the 1930s, the height of western railway travel.

Contemporary Chickasaw Art Exhibition Opens June 7 at OU

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus serves as the first venue for a new traveling exhibition of fresh Native American artwork. Visual Voices: Contemporary Chickasaw Art features more than five dozen works by emerging Chickasaw artists and opens with complimentary, public festivities at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7.

OU Art Museum Receives Grant From National Endowment for the Arts

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma recently received a $23,500 Art Works grant to support the upcoming exhibition, Visual Voices: Contemporary Chickasaw Art. The museum award was one of more than $80 million in grants approved by National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018.

Annual Student Exhibition Celebrates 104 Years at OU April 26

NORMAN, OKLA. – Few American university art museums can tout more than a century of student artwork, but the University of Oklahoma celebrates its 104th annual student exhibition near the end of April. The 104th Annual OU School of Visual Arts Student Exhibition premieres with a public opening reception at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the OU Norman campus. The exhibition remains on display through Sunday, May 13, in the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery.

California Artist to Visit OU Art Museum March 27

NORMAN, OKLA. – In his new installation at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, California-based artist Jesse Small uses fabricated cross sections of satellite dishes and shadows to explore themes of space travel, afterlife journeys and cosmic microwaves. The artist behind Space Burial is visiting the University of Oklahoma’s art museum for a complimentary public gallery talk through the new exhibition at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.

NORMAN, OKLA. – A first-of-its-kind exhibition honoring three generations of Pueblo artists opens this month at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma. Generations in Modern Pueblo Painting: The Art of Tonita Peña and Joe Herrera spans 65 years and reveals how a mother and son broke tradition and influenced generations of modern painters.
