Annual Holiday Train Event Back at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art


NORMAN – The second annual All Aboard holiday train event is returning to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, beginning with an opening night scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. All Aboard will include model trains, door prizes, a cookie and hot cocoa bar, art activities, and holiday portraits with Santa Claus. Don’t miss this free night of fun for the whole family!

OU Art Museum Unveils Updated Galleries in October


NORMAN – After extensive planning, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art located on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus will debut a new reinstallation of selections from the museum’s nearly 20,000-object permanent collection on Friday, October 4.

This reinstallation is the first of its kind for the museum in over a decade and seeks to revitalize the galleries with added color and a chronological layout for the objects on display.

OU Art Museum Promotes Engagement in Community in Two New Ways This Month

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is seeking to strengthen its ties with the community this month through a docent search and their annual Sooner Museum Quest. Through these two programs, the museum hopes to promote fine arts engagement and show its support for members of the Norman and Oklahoma City area.

Art Museum Reduces Hours and Closes Store in Latest Reductions at OU

NORMAN, OKLA. – Muse, the museum store at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, will have its final day of operation on Friday, June 28. Staff at the store were notified of this change on June 13 during the latest round of reductions in force at the University of Oklahoma.

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Association is hosting a daylong bus trip to Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday, June 28. Trip attendees will visit the Kimbell Art Museum and see their new exhibit Monet: The Late Years. This trip comes two years after visiting the first part of the show, Monet: The Early Years.

Art Museum Kicks Off Summer With New Exhibition and Contest

Between the Isms

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus will open a new exhibition at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, titled Between the Isms: The Oklahoma Society of Impressionists and Selected Oklahoma Expressionists. The opening reception will feature a panel talk with several artists from the show.

Student Exhibition Marks 105 Years at OU April 25

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the University of Oklahoma’s School of Visual Art are joining together to celebrate student artistry for the 105th Annual OU School of Visual Arts Student Exhibition. The student exhibition is the final event for SoVA’s academic year and opens with a public reception and awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 in the Sandy Bell Gallery of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The exhibition will remain on display through Sunday, May 12 in the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery.

OU Art Museum and School of Music Unite for Testimony Event on April 18

NORMAN – Music and art will come together at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art to commemorate the legacy of artist and Holocaust survivor David Friedman. This complimentary concert and presentation is part of the Testimony: The Life and Work of David Friedman exhibition’s programming and is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 18.

Art Serves as a Vehicle for Social Change in Two New Exhibitions at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art

NORMAN, OKLA. – Art becomes the platform for discussion surrounding history, race, sex and injustice in The Westheimer Distinguished Visiting Artist Chair: Mildred Howard and Testimony: The Life and Work of David Friedman, both opening on Jan. 25 at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. San Francisco-based artist Mildred Howard, who has achieved an international reputation for her collages and installations, will serve as the seventh Jerome M. Westheimer, Sr. & Wanda Otey Westheimer Distinguished Visiting Artist Chair. An exhibition of Howard’s work will open at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on Jan. 25 with a public opening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.
