Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Exhibition Features Kiowa Six


 

NORMAN – A first-of-its-kind exhibition is now on display at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art exclusively featuring the artists known as the Kiowa Six: Spencer Asah (1906-1954), James Auchiah (1906-1974), Jack Hokeah (1901-1969), Stephen Mopope (1898-1974), Lois Smoky (1907-1981), and Monroe Tsatoke (1904-1937). Kiowa Agency: Stories of the Six explores the ways in which these artists were agents of cultural preservation throughout their careers.

OU Art Museum Opens Exhibit Featuring OK Expatriate Artists


 

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus, will open a new exhibition Thursday, Sept. 10 titled OK/LA featuring Oklahoma artists Patrick Blackwell, Joe Goode, Jerry McMillan, Ed Ruscha, Paul Ruscha and Mason Williams. These six friends came of age in the 1950s and ‘60s Oklahoma City metro and subsequently moved to California to follow their individual artistic paths.

Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Director Announces Departure


NORMAN – Mark White has announced his resignation as the Wylodean and Bill Saxon Director at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, effective April 30. White was appointed director of the museum by David L. Boren in 2015 and before that served as Eugene B. Adkins Curator starting in 2009.

OU Art Museum Highlights Enigmatic Oklahoma Artist in New Exhibition


 

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art will display a new installation this month featuring notable Oklahoma artist O. Gail Poole in the exhibition Sideshow, with a soft opening set for 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. A lecture and reception for the exhibition also is scheduled to take place at the museum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

Art Museum Partners With College of Architecture for Bruce Goff Exhibition


NORMAN – Renegades: Bruce Goff and the American School of Architecture, a joint exhibition between the University of Oklahoma’s Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the Christopher C. Gibbs School of Architecture, opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, with a panel discussion set for 7 p.m. at the museum.

The panel discussion will feature exhibition curator Luca Guido, lead designer Michael Hoffner and the College of Architecture’s Director of Research Initiatives and Strategic Planning Angela Person. Following the panel, the exhibition will officially open to the public at 8 p.m. in the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery, accompanied by hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and music.
