Richard and Ellen Sandor Family Collection

Founded on a shared passion, Richard and Ellen Sandor put together a collection of photographs and art that is a microcosm of the history of photography from the 1840s to present day. Richard is an economist and founded the Chicago Climate Exchange and Ellen is an artist who collaborated on some of the new media works in their collection.

In addition to the gift of photographs and paintings, the Sandors also set up an endowment fund for future museum purchases of photography. Two museum galleries are named in honor of the Sandors’ generosity: the Ellen and Richard L. Sandor Gallery, which houses rotating temporary exhibitions, and the Ellen and Richard L. Sandor Photography Gallery, which houses rotating exhibitions of photography, works on paper, and/or new media.
