Learn and Engage at FJJMA

The museum’s Learning + Engagement department is committed to extending visual arts education to the University of Oklahoma’s campus, the Oklahoma public schools, and beyond. In this tab, find out more about education school programs the museum coordinates and how you can get involved at FJJMA!

Launched in 2018, the FJJMA app provides visitors with a behind the scenes look into the museum. While you walk through the museum, you will notice labels that indicate which works you can learn more about on the app.

Through interactive maps and audio tours, the app allows those in and outside the museum to connect with us. The app is free and available for download for iOS devices. If you do not have an iOS device, you can still use the app by visiting the web portal version or by requesting an in-gallery iPad from Visitor Services to explore the app.

Visiting the museum with kids? Try out one of our family activity packs available to borrow from a self-serve station just past the visitor services desk. These red tote bags will take you on a trip around the world through the collection. Each bag includes an information card highlighting a few works from a different region as well as hands-on activities related to the art you’ll see on your travels.

In addition to the activity packs, kids of all ages (and even kids at heart) can challenge each other to a game of art bingo. Younger children may want to use a season scavenger hunt to search for artworks related to different times of the year as your family explores the galleries. Look for both of these cards at the self-serve station as well.

This space on the lower level in the Ellen and Richard L. Sandor Gallery encourages visitors to explore special exhibitions through hands-on sensory experiences, art activities, and a family reading rug frequently stocked with picture books inspired by the current show. Brightly colored furniture provides a comfortable atmosphere to linger in the gallery while engaging more deeply with art concepts and materials. In this area, visitors can find Family Gallery Guides that facilitate child-friendly interactions with
special exhibitions.

Feel free to bring with you pencils and notebooks to write or sketch in the galleries. We're also happy to loan you our own pencils and clipboards at the Visitor Services desk.

To enhance a self-guided experience, iPads are available with the FJJMA app. The app includes a Highlights tour, Outdoor Sculptures tour, and Hear/Say episodes that discuss particular works in detail.
