Become a Docent

The term "docent" comes from Latin meaning “to teach,” and refers to the volunteers who give museum tours and assist with a variety of museum programs and initiatives.

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art docents are specially trained on the permanent collection, rotating exhibitions, and touring techniques to facilitate outstanding visitor experiences.

You don’t need to be an art expert or have previous museum experience to join our team. Here’s what we look for in a docent:

  • Learning enthusiasts who enjoy sharing knowledge with others
  • Outgoing individuals with a good sense of humor
  • Team players with diverse backgrounds and interests

For more information on joining the docent team, please contact the Director of Learning + Engagement, Amanda Boehm-Garcia through email or by phone at (405) 325-3270.
