OU Provost Kyle Harper delivered the inaugural Institute Welcome Lecture yesterday afternoon to a packed room of almost 200 students, faculty and staff.
Starting with the Aristotelian idea that humans are social animals, Harper presented his vision of OU as a polis or community that not only prepares students for life-long careers but also equips them to flourish as citizens and as individuals.
This was the first lecture in an annual series sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Human Flourishing. Delivered each fall semester by a distinguished OU faculty member, the Institute Welcome Lectures speak to the purposes and value of an OU education.
