About Us

Civi et reipublicae, the motto of the University of Oklahoma, means "for the citizen and for the country." In keeping with that idea, the Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage was created in 2009 to serve as a resource for OU students and the greater community in the areas of citizenry, democracy and U.S. history.

As part of that commitment, our institute sponsors a number of lectures each year, including our spring-annual Teach-In event, an all-day lecture series on a particular historical theme. Constitution Day is another keystone for us, which we celebrate with a different guest speaker every September. These events are completely free and open to all.

We understand you may not be able to attend every lecture, which is why we launched freedom.ou.edu, a website designed to house the many videos produced from these events over the years. Missed a past Teach-In? No problem, just click on the Teach-In tab or homepage icon. Interested in a famous court case, the electoral college or what the Founding Fathers had to say about the Second Amendment? Also not a problem; all that is available in our Quick Courses section.

Still can't find what you're looking for? Feel free to email us at iach@ou.edu or call us at (405) 325-7697. And if you like what we're doing, subscribe to our email newsletter for IACH event updates.
