The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication is a founding member of the ACEJMC. The college has had continuous accreditation since 1948.
Gaylord Hall has more than 100,000 square-feet of high-tech classroom, presentation, studio and computer lab space.
Gaylord Hall Productions is the professional contract and documentary media production unit within the Gaylord College at OU. This national award winning mix of faculty and students create videos that combine creativity and effective message design. GHP provides an outlet for the college’s top media production students to gain valuable real world experience and build a professional portfolio. Gaylord Hall Productions has clients at OU, in Oklahoma and across the nation. A must experience for those interested in corporate, commercial and documentary media production.
Our advertising and public relations Lindsey+Asp, is run by students who work with real clients, both in Norman and beyond. Students who are active in the agency often land cool internships, which lead to jobs upon graduation.
Produced weekdays at 4:30pm, OU Nightly is Gaylord College’s daily newscast. An award winning show, OU Nightly allows students to work all aspects of news production thus making themselves more marketable for jobs within the industry. Producing, directing, anchoring, and reporting are only a few of the jobs students gain experience in every day while participating in OU Nightly.
Our take on ESPN’s college gameday. Produced Saturday mornings during football season, GamedayU features detailed analysis of the college football landscape. The award winning show gives sport fans the chance to discuss and provide analysis without the use of scripts. GamedayU consistently brings home hardware during awards season.
Sooner Sports Pad is an award winning broadcast produced weekly in Gaylord College’s Studio D. In partnership with SoonerVision, the broadcast is the only student produced show in the country that reaches a live national audience on a weekly basis. This specific episode was named the top Sports Program in the country by both the Broadcast Education Association and the National Broadcasting Society in 2020.
One of the oldest organizations in Gaylord College, the Ad Club introduces students to an exciting profession that is constantly changing. Club members meet regularly with industry professionals who provide guidance and advice on navigating future careers. And freshmen are welcome!
Many students studying public relations, the largest major in Gaylord College, join our chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America to learn about this exciting profession. The college’s PRSSA chapter is one of the nation’s oldest and one of the few named chapters — in this case, for the late Stewart Harral, a public relations professor at OU and a nationally recognized expert in the field. PRSSA chapter members interact with professionals, many of whom are Gaylord graduates, and receive advice about preparing for their careers. And you can get involved immediately.
