Enforcement

Coordinated by the Office of Judicial Services, the Three Strikes Policy was adopted in the Spring of 2005 to set clear guidelines for the university's expectations related to alcohol use and to provide early identification of students exhibiting problems with alcohol.  Individual students and student organizations, such as fraternities, sororities and registered student groups, can receive strikes for violations that occur on or off campus.

MEDICAL AMNESTY - In a situation where a student shows one or more signs of alcohol or other drug poisoning/overdose and another student calls 911 for medical transport, a Strike will not be issued to the student needing help nor to the student calling for help in the event that the active bystander has also been drinking.

Strike I Violations

Are defined as a first violation of the University of Oklahoma’s Alcohol Policy. Possessing, using, providing, manufacturing, distributing, or selling alcoholic beverages on or off campus is in violation of law or University policies. Violation of the Alcohol Policy will result in the initiation of disciplinary action for such violations under the Student Conduct Code.

The Strike I Policy may include but are not limited to the following; Parental notification, community service, educational programs and fines. Subsequent violations may result in suspension from the University.

Through a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change, trained staff conduct one-on-one or group Strike One alcohol education sessions that address the sanction and any concerns the student(s) may have.* Student Conduct will first direct students to the Comprehensive Alcohol Program Strike One online session scheduling form which is to be electronically submitted to the CAP office. Note - this electronic form is only for Strike One violations. Students are also free to call or email the CAP to initiate contact to schedule a Strike One session. The CAP will then follow-up with the student to verify the session date, time, location and cost.

* - Due to Covid-19, all Strike One sessions are conducted virtually via Zoom until otherwise noted.

Strike II Violations

Are defined as a second violation of the University of Oklahoma’s Alcohol Policy. Possessing, using, providing, manufacturing, distributing, or selling alcoholic beverages on or off campus is in violation of law or University policies. Violation of the Alcohol Policy will result in the initiation of disciplinary action for such violations under the Student Conduct Code.

The Strike II Policy may include but are not limited to the following; Parental notification, community service, educational programs and fines. Subsequent violations may result in suspension from the University. These interventions are structured to educate students about the effects of alcohol on their behavior and to support the development of effective coping skills so students can make informed decisions and reduce their alcohol-related risk and ham.

To schedule a Student Conduct mandated Strike Two appointment with our Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor or to self refer for non-mandatory counseling services, please call the University Counseling Center (405) 325-2911.

A Strike Three results in an automatic suspension followed by a Parent/Guardian notification via return receipt certified mail with a follow-up telephone call. The Student Conduct office will provide the student with suspension details.
