Housing & Meal Plan Options After Thanksgiving Break
OU Housing Resident,
On behalf of OU Housing and Food Services, I would like to personally thank you for your patience as we navigate the impacts of COVID-19. As announced earlier, instruction will be moved online after Thanksgiving Break through final exams. I first want to assure you that OU Housing and Food Services will be open for the remainder of the fall semester through winter break as planned.
However, we recognize the modification of the instructional plan could impact your decision to remain in campus housing for the remainder of the fall semester. This notice is to ensure you are aware of your options. At no penalty, OU Housing and Food Services is offering residential students the opportunity to opt-in to an amendment of their Fall 2020 Housing/Meal contracts, if you agree to not return to campus after the Thanksgiving Break (Monday, November 30, 2020 through Sunday, January 17, 2021). Appropriate credits will be provided. Prior to finalizing your decision, please check your university commitments that may require on-campus presence post-Thanksgiving through January 17, 2021. If you decide to amend your housing and meal contracts, please see the information below.
OU Housing Residents Opting in for Credit
To receive credit to your Bursar’s account, you must complete a two-step process:
- Accept the Fall 2020 OU Housing/Meal Contract Amendment available on the housing portal for University Housing Contracts by Friday, November 13, 2020 by 5 p.m.
- Schedule your checkout date and time via the housing portal after the first week in November.
- Prepare to take only the necessary items from your room. Your belongings will be allowed to remain in your space, but you will not have access to your room after you have checked out.
- Sooner Card access will be shut off once your checkout has been processed.
- Only residents who have completed the Fall 2020 OU Housing/Meal Contract Amendment and properly checked out from their space by Sunday, November 29, 2020 by 5 p.m. will receive their credit for this option.

Credits for Housing and Meal Plans
The university will credit housing and meal plans for the period of November 30 – December 18 for students who elect to officially check out of their on-campus housing assignment for the remainder of the fall semester. Student credits will be processed as soon as the checkout is complete with OU Housing. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for the credit to process. The credit may be applied to spring semester charges. Students who remain on campus will not be eligible for this credit after November 29, regardless of the circumstances.
Additional information about parking permit credits is forthcoming. For more information, please contact OU Parking Services at (405) 325-3311 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students currently receiving financial aid with questions related to financial resources should contact the OU Student Financial Center at email@example.com.
Under the direction of OU’s Chief COVID Officer Dr. Bratzler, all residents anticipating traveling and/or returning home for Thanksgiving Break are encouraged to be tested for COVID-19 to mitigate the spread of the virus at your destination location. The Cate 3 testing site will remain open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. until Tuesday, November 24 at 6 p.m. Please use this link to book your appointment: ou.edu/covidtest.
Residents who plan to return to campus after Thanksgiving Break are encouraged to retest upon returning to campus. Testing can be done at OU Goddard Health Services – call (405) 325-4441 to schedule an appointment.
More information about testing prior to returning to campus for the spring semester will be shared in early January.
Again, these are unprecedented times for our campus community. Our hope is to provide continued support for students in all circumstances. We appreciate your assistance with slowing the spread of COVID-19. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call (405) 325-2511 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
