Learn to Podcast with OU Libraries

Learn to Podcast with OU Libraries

According to a recent study, more than 51 percent of Americans 12 and older have listened to a podcast. With this potentially huge audience, students who want to expand their media footprint and learn a new method of communication can get the basics during Podcasting 101 at Bizzell Memorial Library. Librarians now teach the workshop multiple times per semester, and podcasting equipment is available for checkout for those crafting their own program.

In addition, a student podcasting studio is available for reservation next to the Edge space in the library. Reservable by undergraduate students only, this studio offers audio and microphone equipment, as well as equipment for video conferencing. A faculty and staff recording studio is available on lower level one in the library.

For those who do not yet know how to podcast, Podcasting 101 will teach the basics of how to record, edit and publish a podcast in a one-hour workshop. Participants will learn how to use basic podcasting equipment, as well as how to edit content with the free program Audacity. However, deciding what their podcasts should be about is up to the students.

Check the website at the beginning of the spring semester to see when future “Podcasting 101” sessions will be scheduled.

Podcasting 101 is one of several introductory workshops offered at the library, including 3-D Printing 101, Photography 101 and Virtual Reality 101.

These workshops provide the opportunity for individuals to augment their scholarship using technologies available in the library.

The library staff encourages students who would like to see workshops or classes on a particular topic or technology to suggest them. A current listing of programming can be found at  https://libraries.ou.edu.
