OU Board of Regents Approves Radar Development and More

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents met Monday to approve the development of innovative radar systems, formation of the search committee for the director of the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and other items.

During the meeting, held at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, the Board approved a project providing electronic components and supplies for the planned design and development of radar systems at the University.

The Advanced Radar Research Center at OU continues to make strides with the development of three independent radar systems. This expansion propels ARRC in pursuing the use of cutting-edge radar technology.

“At OU, with the National Weather Center and the Advanced Radar Research Center, we have the makings of a ‘Silicon Valley’ environment for radar research and development,” said OU Interim President Joseph Harroz Jr. “Our efforts to be a leader in radar research – and its many real-world applications, from the fields of weather to defense – will have far-reaching impacts on our state and nation.”

The formation of a search committee for the director of the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History was also approved by the Board. The committee, chaired by OU Professor of Anthropology Tassie Hirschfeld, is made up of 11 other members who will lead a national search for the museum’s director.

This is the final scheduled meeting of the OU Board of Regents for 2019.
