National Weather Festival

Storms Into Norman

A behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to forecast the weather will be on display at the National Weather Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the National Weather Center in Norman.

The free event is open to the public and will feature tours of the NOAA Forecast office, balloon launches, local TV personalities, weather vehicles and food trucks.

“Because the spring is so busy for weather forecasting, the festival is held in the fall. The event is held in October with an average of 5,000 attendees each year,” said Kari Roop, director of external relations at the University of Oklahoma’s College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences.

Attendees can meet the weather-themed superheroes “The Weather Friends,” learn about new research, make weather-related crafts, and even issue a forecast.

Sponsorships sold by the Norman Chamber of Commerce help keep the event funded. For more information on the National Weather Center, visit http://www.ou.edu/nwc.
