Red River Showdown Recruitment

As hundreds of football fans are focused on football this weekend, the highly anticipated game provides a great recruitment opportunity for the University of Oklahoma.

The game, which takes place during the State Fair of Texas at the Cotton Bowl, is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. It is a great marketable opportunity for prospective students with all the extra attention focused on OU, said Senior Associate Vice President of the Division of Enrollment Management Jeff Blahnik.

Blahnik, who is also the executive director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, described some of the recruitment opportunities that take place the week of the OU-Texas game, including a night for local seniors and their parents to learn more about the great opportunities available at OU.

The evening starts with a welcome from OU Interim President Joseph Harroz Jr. and other administrators, followed by a student success video.

“There will be a student speaker featured, and there will be a panel of administrators, faculty and an alum who will tell the special story of what is happening on campus,” Blahnik said. “Following that programming, we have an ‘innovator corner’ time for students and their families to interact with representatives from all the colleges and other departments across campus.”
