Union Event Celebrates Halloween Tech Fears

Halloween is coming soon, and that means it’s time for the Union Programming Board’s annual Haunt the Union at the University of Oklahoma. To play on fears of technological advancements, the theme for this year’s event mirrors many of today’s sci-fi classics.

“The theme is rogue technology and we are going bigger than ever this year. We’ll be using most of the Union, and we’re implementing multiple routes throughout the house to add a choose-your-own-adventure aspect to the experience,” said Sally Johnson, the programming director for the Union Programming Board.

Under the theme of “rogue technology,” attendees can experience, “Android Attack,” which features tight spaces, intense darkness, crawling, jump scares, a slide, and stairs. Also “Cyborg Cemetery” features dark spaces and jump scares and is entirely ADA accessible.

The Union Programming Board is co-programming with the Game Developers Association to create an app that will be implemented throughout the ‘haunted house’ to add another element of interactivity to the event.

Each route through the haunt has 10 available slots per run, and people must sign-up individually. Organizers encourage people to go through with friends. Guests need to check in 10 minutes before their scheduled time.

Haunt the Union is open to all ages and members of the community. The event will take over Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave., from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 31.
