OU Giving Day Set for September 10

OU Giving Day Set for September 10

The University of Oklahoma will launch its third annual OU Giving Day on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The 24-hour-long online fundraising campaign supports students, departments, programs and groundbreaking research on all three OU campuses.

Donations can be made through the secure online platform at ou.edu/givingday from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 10. Every OU college and dozens of other academic areas and student organizations will be represented during the campaign, which will benefit a range of scholarship funds and campus community programs.

The purpose of OU Giving Day is to raise funds for University programs. It also serves to inspire and educate students and the greater OU community on the importance of philanthropy in the educational experience. More than half of the OU student experience is funded by donor dollars and other sources outside tuition, fees and state appropriations.

During the first OU Giving Day in February 2017, more than 1,500 donors contributed nearly $180,000 to fund scholarships for more than 350 students. Last year, additions to the day, such as gift-matching opportunities, challenges, ambassadors and gift tags, were introduced, bringing in 2,123 gifts totaling $479,444.

Starting this year, Campus Campaign will now merge with OU Giving Day. First established in 1993, Campus Campaign brings together OU faculty, staff and retirees to support the university. Last year, more than 2,380 faculty, staff and retirees raised more than $3 million for a variety of programs through Campus Campaign.

The decision to unite these two fundraising efforts will bring together the entire Sooner family – students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and friends – in pursuit of a common goal: to ensure the university lives on for generations to come.

OU Giving Day is organized by the Office of University Development, which advances OU’s mission by facilitating philanthropic support of student-centered and strategic initiatives. University Development stewards and cultivates key relations by uniting individuals and organizations, both charitable and corporate, with OU’s fundraising priorities.
