New Scooters, Bikes Zip to OU Campus

New Scooters, Bikes Zip to Norman Campus

The new year has brought new scooters and bicycles to the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus.

The University is partnering with VeoRide for last-mile travel options after being selected from a competitive bid process in the fall. VeoRide was the select vendor because of its low cost to users, revenue sharing with the University and more robust, safer scooters. VeoRide will be the only micromobility company allowed on campus.

VeoRide’s bikes replace the Crimson Cruisers, which is discontinuing its business model.

The bikes are free for students, faculty and staff to use once a membership has been established with VeoRide.

In the VeoRide app – available from the Apple App Store and Google Play – students, faculty and staff need to register their account with an ou.edu email address.

Then, in the VeoRide app wallet, click on “membership” and “accept the free membership.” Students, faculty and staff free have access to unlimited rides.

The rate for those not wishing to use their ou.edu verified email address will be charged 7 cents per minute to use the bikes.

Even with a membership, a credit or debit card must be kept on file for security reasons.

For members, scooters are $1 to unlock and 15 cents per minute.

The scooters have larger tires, a larger base and a better center of gravity than other scooter options. VeoRide is also the only company with swappable batteries, so the scooters themselves do not have to be charged.

VeoRide will hire employees to manage the bike and scooter operations, and students are welcome to apply for these positions via the “careers” option at veoride.com.
