OU Implements New HR System as Part of Infrastructure Improvements

In 2019, the University of Oklahoma undertook the important task of updating key business systems, some of which have been in place for more than 20 years. This bold effort began coming into fruition with the implementation of a unified PeopleSoft Financials system in July 2020, and it continues with a new consolidated Human Resources PeopleSoft system, which is scheduled to launch Dec. 30. Employee Self-Service and paycheck statements will be unavailable from noon on Dec. 23 through Dec. 29. Additional important information and deadlines related to the Human Resources PeopleSoft project are available at ou.edu/compassproject.

Following the HR project, a new budget planning tool will be implemented in spring 2021. In 2022, the Epic electronic health record system to be utilized by HSC employees is scheduled to go live in collaboration with OU Health.

All of these endeavors represent important investments in our core business systems, enabling employees to best serve our students, the patients in our health system and our communities. Unifying systems across the university provides the opportunity to update and modernize processes, data and technology.

While these are not easy undertakings, they are essential. The aggressive timelines for each project reflect the great need for these improvements.

“Because we only have small windows of opportunity, such as the fiscal year or calendar year boundaries, to upgrade these 20-year-old systems, we have necessarily used an accelerated and adaptive methodology, rolling out a solid new foundation first, followed by continuous improvement thereafter,” said David Horton, senior associate vice president for information technology and chief information officer.

Dedicated OU employees have worked tirelessly to make these transitions possible.

“Each of us has a key role to play in tackling these huge challenges,” said Angela Church, senior associate vice president for human resources and chief human resources officer. “The collaboration, enthusiasm and support we give one another are important ways we contribute to the success of these projects. Together, we will continue to collectively address the adjustments we know are critical to the overall success of these new systems.”

We thank the entire university community for their assistance, patience and support with these important system upgrades.
