OUPD Welcomes Three New Officers

Officers Candice Gann, Jarvis Friend and Alex Herrera

Three new officers are set to join the University of Oklahoma Police Department after recently graduating from the 58th Norman Police Academy.

Officers Jarvis Friend, Candice Gann and Alex Herrera have begun their field training with OUPD on the Norman campus.

The three were honored earlier this month at a commencement ceremony for the Norman Police Academy, where they received their badges along with 10 officers joining the Norman Police Department.

Friend, a Chicago native, ran track at DePaul University in Chicago, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a concentration in crime, law and criminology.

“For me, my plan was always to become a police officer, and luckily for me, I was able to get a chance with OUPD,” Friend said.

Gann was raised in Yuba City, California, and is a military veteran. Her husband is also a veteran and is originally from Norman.

Herrera is from the Oklahoma City metro area and is married with young children. He is interested in becoming a defensive tactics instructor and looks forward to serving the university community.
