‘Diversity Dialogue’ Webinar Explores the Impact of Racialized Violence

On June 5, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosted a live webinar for the OU community about combating and confronting racism.

More than 750 viewers, including people in Ghana and Ireland, participated in “Diversity Dialogue: Exploring the Impact of Racialized Violence” to learn about the mental and emotional impact of racialized violence, the role of law enforcement and how each of us can help to combat and confront racism. The webinar also helped facilitate and create a space for community advocacy and healing among participants.

President Harroz provided opening remarks, and the panel discussion included community leaders, professors, spiritual leaders and law enforcement.

In a spirit of support and solidarity and to take action to more directly impact black lives, and particularly black artists, Double Edge has established the Supporting Black & Native Lives scholarship to provide tuition-free and partial tuition scholarships, which in some cases will include housing and food, depending on the program, in each one of our Intensive and Immersion programs, fall, spring and summer.

Black Minds Matter

BMM's goal is to position the 21st century leader with the opportunity to attend college. As such, BMM will focus its attention on providing scholarships to underprivileged youth who will attend colleges in the United States. (Strong preference is given to students attending historically black colleges and universities.) This will increase a more socially conscious generation equipped to stave off social injustices.

The core values that BMM considers in awarding student scholarships include: a strong work ethic; a demonstration of overcoming hardship; scholastic potential; leadership potential;  ability to communicate; ability to solve problems; an affinity for music and the ability to lead social change for the 21st century.
