Maintaining Co-Worker Connections in a Virtual Workplace: OU-Tulsa Experts Weigh In
Dr. Brenda Lloyd-Jones, associate professor in the Department of Human Relations at OU-Tulsa, and Dr. Jasmine Willis-Wallace, OU-Tulsa director of diversity, equity and inclusion, recently wrote an engaging opinion article for the Tulsa World on fostering co-worker connections in virtual spaces.
In their article, the authors assert that research shows, “that an individual’s sense of belonging at work is dependent on the strength of relationships there.” They also provide three ways employees can build relationships with one another, even while working remotely:
- Discuss matters other than work with co-workers
- Ask employees for input on projects and give everyone an opportunity to share
- Ensure employees and co-workers feel acknowledged and appreciated
