Cleveland County first responders and the Oklahoma National Guard’s 63rd Civil Support Team will be in Norman next week to conduct a series of hazmat and law enforcement training exercises.

The event will be conducted in two phases:

  • Off Campus: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Griffin Memorial Hospital, 900 E. Main St.
  • On Campus: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at Lloyd Noble Center, 2900 S. Jenkins Ave.

Parts of the event will include emergency vehicles using lights and sirens, and first responders may be seen wearing hazmat suits. Members of the public should not enter areas marked “Exercise in Progress” or “TRAINING” to ensure their personal safety and prevent training interruptions.

The training event is designed to help refine partnerships between local, state and federal agencies when responding to incidents involving hazardous materials. The exercise is not COVID-19 related and has been scheduled since last fall.

Any questions regarding the training exercises may be addressed to Justin Daniels, OU Department of Campus Safety, (405) 325-2983 or jdaniels@ou.edu.
