Suffering from ‘Zoom Neck’? OU Physical Therapy Professor Has Advice

Using a computer for multiple hours a day has become all too familiar to many of us. The posture that many of us assume as we habitually sit in front of computer screens is what Dr. Ken Randall, associate dean of academic affairs and community engagement for the College of Allied Health, has come to refer to as “Zoom neck.” According to Dr. Randall, this unnatural posture can lead to neck strain, headaches and general discomfort.

“Because you spend so much time [at a desk], if you’re not in good alignment and your muscles and joints are not well-balanced, you can start to develop pain as a result,” Randall said.

Watch Dr. Randall explain how to achieve a more comfortable posture at your computer, how often you should take a break to move your body, as well as some exercises to help counteract the strain from sitting at a desk.
