Defying a Diagnosis: Occupational Therapy Graduate Finds Her Calling

Kathryn Dyer, a master of occupational therapy student at OU, had her life turned upside down as a child when she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She quickly realized that things that came naturally to other kids were more challenging for her. After experiencing firsthand the positive impact of her childhood physical therapist, Dyer began dreaming of a future career in rehabilitation.

While attending the Master of Occupational Therapy program through the OU College of Allied Health, she received another diagnosis that once again shifted her entire life. However, through the support of the OU Health Sciences Center community, she kept going, and will graduate this weekend with her master’s degree.

Dyer’s journey will soon come full circle in her career as an occupational therapist, in which she will help patients who are facing some of the same challenges she’s experienced herself.

Watch to learn more about her journey and to hear her advice for others who might be facing daunting obstacles.
