OU Research Highlights

Research awards since July 1 are up 25% over the last year.

OU again achieved the 2018 Carnegie Institution’s Very High Research Activity classification for the Norman campus. With this designation, OU is among the nation’s top 130 doctoral-degree granting institutions in the 2018 top research category.


In support of the university’s broader goal of doubling research, graduate assistant fees will be $1,100 less for students in AY 2019-20 than they were just two years ago. This will position the OU Norman campus to achieve nationally competitive GA stipends.

The Stephenson Cancer Center is 1 of only 69 other cancer centers in the U.S. to be a Designated Cancer Center by the NCI and the only 1 in the state of Oklahoma. 

 

This places the Stephenson Cancer Center in the top 2% and includes a 5 year, $10.1 million grant.

OU astrophysicists discovered planets beyond the Milky Way for the 1st  by harnessing the power of analytics and an astrological phenomenon called microlensing in order to reveal 3 objects, 3.8 billion light years away.

$869,822 was awarded to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center through the National Institutes of Health to research antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. Totaling 3.4 million over 5 years.


OU’s Advanced Radar Research Center is developing the fastest, most advanced radar in the nation with two SENSR grants of $3.4 and $3.1 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Health Sciences Center competitively renewed a $20 million grant to expand the work of the Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resource program. A collaborative effort among multiple institutions, physicians and American Indian tribes throughout Oklahoma.

$68.4 million in GEAR UP partnership awards to the K20 Center at OU with an additional $68 million of matching funds for a grand total of $137 million. 

 

Total Impact: 46 schools + 12,000 students + 92 new jobs = thousands more college grads

The OU-Tulsa Early Childhood Education Institute was awarded $899,865 from Georgetown University via a Spencer Foundation award to observe the development of 900 three-year-olds until third grade setting a national standard in early childhood education research.


A new $869,995 three year award from the U.S. Department of Defense will be used to participate in an early stage clinical trial for patients with high grade, serious ovarian cancer. The study combines current treatments with a novel compound.
