Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Petroleum and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Program Criteria.

Mission

The mission of the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering is to provide our students with educational experiences which allow them the opportunity to develop technical competence and intellectual perspective to function effectively in and continue professional growth during their careers. These experiences occur primarily through research, innovative classroom instruction, lab experiences, and student mentoring.

Program Educational Objectives

Our alumni will have successful careers as engineers in oil and gas, government, or related industries by applying engineering judgement that is established on fundamentals and continual growth in their competencies.

Our alumni will serve society by involvement in professional activities that positively impact health, safety, and environment through ethical behavior and contemporary knowledge.

Student Outcomes

  1. Gain the ability to idenitify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. Gain the ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, enviromental, and economic factors. 
  3. Gain the ability to communicate effectively with range of audiences.
  4. Gain the ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts. 
  5. Gain the ability to function effectively on a team whose memebers together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive enviroment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. Gain an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgement to draw conclusions.
  7. Gain the ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropiate learning strategies.
