Catalin Teodoriu is Associate Professor at The University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. Until 2015 he was head of the Sub-department for Drilling Technology, Completion and Workover at Clausthal University of Technology. Between 2006 and 2009, he was an assistant professor at Texas A&M University, teaching courses on drilling topics such as Drilling Engineering, Introduction to Drilling Engineering, Completion and Workover, and Advanced Drilling Engineering. He now serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University and as adjunct professor at the Oil and Gas University of Ploiesti in addition to his position in the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering at OU.

He holds a Ph.D. in technical sciences, with a specialty in oilfield equipment, and an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the Oil and Gas University of Ploiesti, and a Ph.D. in engineering from Clausthal University of Technology.

He has more than 15 years of experience in the petroleum industry and academia, with key qualifications and research in drilling and production equipment, drilling technology, integrated computer aided analysis, well completion, testing of OCTG, design of downhole and surface equipment, software development, EOR and geothermal wells, and in the design of laboratory specific equipment (i.e. high pressure testing, large scale testing equipment for multiphase flow and drilling process simulation). He is specialized in developing new threaded connections for OCTG as well as expert on drilling problems and failure analysis. At OU he is building a unique testing facility for threaded connections and OCTG under complex loads.

Dr. Teodoriu is also an experienced instructor in drilling engineering, drilling facilities, casing and drillstring mechanics, workover and drilling technologies topics, holding courses on Stuck Pipe, Drilling Hydraulics, Casing Design, Directional and Horizontal Drilling, Drillstring Mechanics for the industry.

He teaches courses on drilling, completion, workover and production, including two distance-learning courses on-line. He has graduated more than five PhD students and sixty graduate students.

He is the author of more than 150 publications, from which more than 30 are peer-review, and two book chapters.

  • Drilling focal point and coordinator of the largest geothermal project in Germany (gebo 2009-20014)
  • A team of students working under my co-supervision won the 2 Place at the 2008 Disappearing Roads Competition, held in College Station, 2008
  • Appointed as the inaugural holder of the CJ Craft Faculty Fellowship at Texas A&M University, 2008
