South Central CASC: Greenhouse Gases, Coronavirus, & Climate Change
Was climate change responsible for the coronavirus? How can scientists predict the climate in 50 years? A snowstorm dropped a record amount of snow, global warming must be fake, right? Join the South Central CASC as we answer some of these questions and demonstrate why burning fossil fuels is bad news for the atmosphere, species, and humans!
Science Museum Oklahoma
Science Museum Oklahoma has cooked up something spooky for us during #NWF21! Today we are making Oobleck – because who doesn’t want their own colored slime and the science behind it?!
Science Museum Oklahoma has cooked up something spooky for us during #NWF21! Today we are making a smoke plume using liquid nitrogen and learning about temperature and gases!
Science Museum Oklahoma has cooked up something spooky for us during #NWF21! Today we are looking at tornadoes…in a bottle!
Science Museum Oklahoma has cooked up something spooky for us during #NWF21! Today we are looking at a vortex cannon – and what that has to do with Bernoulli's principle!
Science Museum Oklahoma has cooked up something spooky for us during #NWF21! Today we finish our experiments by looking into the most requested… plume of doom!
Ethan Becker, QA Meteorologist for the Oklahoma Mesonet, takes you from the Ken Crawford Demonstration tower to inside the Fred Brock Calibrations Laboratory. Learn how the Oklahoma Mesonet keeps their instruments used in the network in peak condition.
The Oklahoma Mesonet contains more than 100 automated meteorological observation sites that provide critical weather information every 5-minutes, 365-days a year. They have incredible field technicians who travel to all these sites, at least 3 times per year at each site, performing maintenance and repairs.
This timeline provides a brief overview of the Oklahoma Mesonet from its inception to the 20th anniversary in 2014. How did the Oklahoma Mesonet come to be, and who created it? Watch this video to learn more!
Come join the Okie School of Adventure as they visit the Oklahoma Mesonet's demo tower on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, Oklahoma. We learn how weather data is collected from 120 sites across the state and how it is used by weather professionals, educators, farmers, ranchers, emergency management staff, wildfire protection and more.
This video - led by WDTD instructor Jill Hardy - walks through the process of how the National Weather Service (NWS) issues warnings to protect life and property. This video first introduces the Warning Decision Training Division and how it fits in the NWS mission and is followed by a demonstration of issuing a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
NWS Norman’s Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Rick Smith, brings us a fantastic presentation surrounding how we deal with storm anxiety. Storm anxiety affects many people, and this video talks about that anxiety and addresses ways to cope with it.
Please enjoy our newly created virtual tour experience for the National Weather Center (NWC) here in Norman, OK! NWC Outreach Coordinator Kaitlin Frost takes you on a fully-guided tour of all the sights and sounds the NWC has to offer!
Join scientists from the Radar Innovations Lab as they take you on a behind-the-scenes look at radar research. Learn about next-generation radar technology, mobile radars, and severe weather!
Oklahoma Department of Air Quality
Join the Oklahoma Department of Air Quality as they take us behind the scenes of how air quality monitoring is completed, and the history of air quality monitoring.
Join the Oklahoma Department of Air Quality as they explain what exactly is in the "air we breathe" every single day!
