GeoGlow Gallery
...a fluorescent rock display at the Oklahoma Geological Survey
Come join us for a magical experience at the "GeoGlow Gallery", where art and science collide in a mesmerizing display of glowing wonders!
Due to the generosity of rockhound extraordinaire, Bob Warren, the Oklahoma Geological Survey is able to share with the public his collection of fluorescent and phosphorescent geologic treasures! His collection of over 100 specimens is on loan to the OGS, and currently being housed in the Sarkeys Energy Center.
If you'd like to schedule a visit, please contact us, and we'll let you know when the next tour is happening. Please email OGSoutreach@ou.edu with the size of your group, and we will get your tour scheduled.
What should I expect?
This is a free visit. You can plan for your visit to last a total of 30-45 minutes. The gallery is small, but there's a lot to explore. When you arrive, you will park for free in our faculty/staff lot, and enter the building. You'll follow signs to our main office, where we will meet you and lead you to the gallery.
Once in the gallery, you will be free to explore the displays, both with mounted UV lights, as well as a hand-held flashlight if you'd like.
OGS staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the science of fluorescence.
Where are you located?
The GeoGlow Gallery is located at the Oklahoma Geological Survey's main office building on OU-Norman's campus.
Our address is: 100 E. Boyd Street, Norman, Oklahoma 73019
We are located in the basement (1st floor) of the Sarkeys Energy Center, in the northeast corner of the building. Signs will be located to guide you to our main office where we will meet you to begin your tour.
Can I drop in anytime to visit?
We request that you schedule your visit ahead of time, to ensure that the GeoGlow Gallery will be open, and a staff person will be available to show you around. The Gallery visits are being coordinated by our Education & Outreach team, and we are often busy engaging with the public, students, and teachers in schools, at camps, libraries, and community centers. We cannot guarantee that we'll be available if you show up unexpectedly, so please email us in advance so we can schedule a time for your visit.
Can I bring children?
YES! This is a family-friendly gallery! Children of all ages will be in awe of our GeoGlow Gallery while they learn about Geology. While you're visiting, you may want to take a few minutes to explore our Outreach Room as well, which is filled with even more geological treasures (though the normal lights will be on, and there aren't as many glowing specimens).
