The Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA) provides more than $120 billion in grants, loans, and work-study funds to help students pay for college each year and qualify for scholarships.
While the FAFSA typically opens on October 1, the 2024-2025 FAFSA has been redesigned under the FAFSA Simplification Act for a better user experience. The new FAFSA application will be available to complete by December 31, 2023.
Visit the Student Financial Center website to learn more about the 2024-2025 FAFSA changes.
Filling out a FAFSA doesn’t cost anything and usually takes less than an hour to complete. Remember, to receive aid, you must have full and clear admission into the program.
*You may use an estimated income; however, OU may require you to verify your income.
Our financial aid advisors are here to help you succeed and provide you with the support needed to obtain educational funding.

You can fill out the FAFSA electronically on the FAFSA website, use the myStudentAid app (available in your phone’s app store), or download a FAFSA PDF form that you can fill out and mail in.
Once OU has determined your aid status, you will be sent an electronic or paper aid offer or award letter detailing the specific types of financial aid you have been awarded.
To claim your aid package, you must indicate the specific forms of aid you are accepting and return the signed acceptance form to the OU Student Financial Center.

You must submit the free Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application each year. Apply early so you can receive your official aid offer as soon as possible. When completing your FAFSA, choose the correct year, depending on when you plan to enroll in courses.
Financial Aid is limited in some programs as federal regulation prohibits funding students pursuing licensure or seeking certification.
For example, only coursework in the Master of Human Relations standard degree program, up to 36 hours or degree completion, is eligible for aid. For the Clinical and Mental Health Counseling degree, aid is available up to 60 hours.
If you have questions about financial aid for your program, contact your advisor.
