Self-Defense Training

OUPD self-defense instructor Sergeant Tim Tucker works with a student.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, we will not be hosting any self-defense classes until further notice.  Please stay tuned to the webpage for updates on when we start hosting these classes again.  Thank you for your consideration and understanding.

OU Police Department provides frequent classes in Self Defense/Sexual Assault Awareness. These classes are FREE and are open to any individual, group, or organization in the University community. Classes are designed so that an individual can attend one or more identical sessions and learn how to avoid an attack and techniques used to escape an attacker. Other relevant information is also presented.

Our program is instructed by certified police officers with extensive training experience with both police tactics and civilian self-defense techniques.

Special classes for groups can be arranged in advance by coordinating with the OUPD Crime Prevention Unit. If you would like to schedule a class for your group or organization please call 325-2864, e-mail or use the on-line Public Presentation Request Form on this website. If you plan to attend any self-defense session please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

OUPD can tailor a sexual assault prevention program to a group’s needs and interests. For more information or to schedule a session, call Crime Prevention and Community Relations Officer at 325-2864 or e-mail
