JAMES R. USKERT

PhD (Colorado) - Professor Uskert currently teaches Commercial Banking and Business Finance. He has also been active in teaching Investments and Fixed-Income Fund Management. Uskert came to OU in 1999 as a visiting assistant professor from the Merrill Lynch retail office in Oklahoma City. Prior to his time at Merrill Lynch, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Denver, and earlier was an assistant professor of finance at Colorado State University.

 

Professor Uskert enjoys serving as the coordinator of the undergraduate finance program and as the faculty advisor for the Finance Student Association (FSA). As finance coordinator he has oversight for a number of administrative functions including analyzing needed changes in the undergraduate finance curriculum, collaborating with the undergraduate career development office and leading initiatives to establish a stronger identity for the undergraduate finance major. As the advisor for the FSA he promotes student contact with financial professionals and organizations in order to enhance networking potential and finance career opportunities. The FSA currently has an energetic executive group that, under the oversight of Dr. Uskert, involves finance majors in interfacing with finance managers for internships and career placement.

 

Professor Uskert's research interests are in the financial services industry, corporate restructuring, and investments. He has published in Electric Potential and The Financial Review. His doctoral dissertation is entitled Operating Synergy: Isolating the Source of Gains in Mergers and Acquisitions.

 

Professor Uskert's business experience includes serving as an associate financial consultant, training and education facilitator, and financial planning analyst in the Private Client Group at Merrill Lynch & Co., as cash manager for Wood Brothers Homes, and as assistant controller and manager of accounting for Auto-trol Technology Corporation.

He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics, with an emphasis in analysis, from Indiana University. His MBA is from the University of Denver, where he majored in finance.
