Admissions

The University of Oklahoma's Division of Finance evaluates each applicant individually in order to select for admission those applicants who appear to have the proper aptitude, scholarship, and analytical skills necessary to successfully complete an advanced degree. The following materials are required in order to be considered for admission:

  1. Transcript of all undergraduate and graduate coursework.
  2. Scores on the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) and/or Graduate Record Exam (To ensure that these scores are current, the exam should have been taken in the last two years).
  3. Three letters of recommendation
  4. An official TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test (250 on the computer-based test or 100 on the internet-based test) or higher.
  5. Statement of your reasons for pursuing a Doctorate in Finance and why you chose to apply to the University of Oklahoma.

Strong applicants are normally invited to campus for a personal interview which is an important element of the selection process. The application deadline is January 15. Applications after this date will be considered on a space available basis.

Most successful recent applicants to the finance Ph.D. programs have earned master's degrees in business (MBA), economics (MSEc), finance (MSF), or Quantitative Finance (MSFQ), with the latter three more academically oriented degrees emerging as generally better preparatory training for doctoral finance coursework. Most successful recent applicants also have 700+ GMAT scores, comparable to GRE scores of 165+ on both the Verbal and Quantitative segments. Professional-level work experience is not a prerequisite for Ph.D. admission but is considered positively.
