Baker Institute Fellow to Speak in Upcoming OU Energy Institute Webcast

Michelle Foss

Threats and opportunities in the energy industry will be the topic of the next University of Oklahoma Energy Institute webcast. The discussion, slated to go online July 8, will feature Michelle Michot Foss, fellow in energy and minerals at Rice University’s Baker Institute.

Energy Institute board member Jay Jimerson, manager and general counsel at Cardinal River Energy LLC, and Executive MBA in Energy graduate Sallie Noellsch, drilling engineer at Chesapeake Energy, will moderate.

“The advent of COVID-19 has accelerated the fundamental changes already taking place in the industry after the third price crash in a little over a decade,” said Dipankar Ghosh, the ConocoPhillips Chair in Energy Accounting at the Price College of Business. “Neither the extent nor the duration of these changes is clear. As the industry navigates this new normal, what can we learn from established and thoughtful leaders in the energy industry? The Energy Institute’s bimonthly webcasts will bring together industry leaders to discuss today’s key issues and insights.”

The upcoming webcast in the complimentary series will be available online at price.ou.edu/energywebcast.

The OU Energy Institute launched “The Future of Energy” series June 15 with Pioneer Natural Resources President and CEO Scott Sheffield discussing how the price wars and the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the industry.

Future episodes will feature new guests and cover topics from the energy sector, including hydrocarbon, renewables and energy in transition.

As part of the Michael F. Price College of Business, the Energy Institute is home to the Executive MBA in Energy program. It provides a community of practitioners and academics to advance innovative and sustainable solutions to the critical energy challenges facing the nation and, more broadly, the global community through education, research and outreach.

Ghosh, the institute’s founding executive director, also is the David Ross Boyd Professor of Accounting.
