Price College of Business E-News October 2019

Welcome

Interim Dean Wayne Thomas speaks with faculty members

The fall semester is well underway at the Price College of Business, and this semester has already proven to be an exciting and successful one for the College. Our first and most exciting news is the recent announcement that the Price College of Business has jumped 12 spots to 50th in the nation for its undergraduate programs, according to a new report by U.S. News and World Report. And although rankings alone do not define us, they certainly help send a message that Price College belongs among the elite business schools in the nation. Thanks and congratulations to the many faculty, staff, students, alumni, partners and stakeholders who help us achieve our best every day.

More good news comes from our 2018-19 Master of Accountancy graduates, who achieved 100% placement by graduation. Of our 61 graduating students, 49 were employed with national, international, regional, or local CPA firms, while 10 obtained or retained employment and one pursued further education. Congratulations to our students, and to the faculty and staff who helped support their success!

Congratulations also are in order for Ronnie K. Irani, one of our great friends and partners, who will be recognized next month by the Oklahoma Geological Foundation for “having a significant effect on the geology profession, the energy industry and volunteer and philanthropic endeavors.” Please join us in congratulating Ronnie for this much-deserved award!

I’d like thank everyone who participated in September’s University-wide Giving Day. Thanks to staff, faculty, alumni, and friends like you, Price College raised a record $120,000+ from more than 160 individual gifts. We appreciate your much-needed support and your help making this a successful giving event!

I’d like to invite our local friends and alumni to participate in Price College Service Day 2019. This year’s event is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. As you may know, Price Service Day is a fantastic college-wide event where Price students, faculty and staff volunteer for local organizations in Norman. Last year, around 250 Price students volunteered, and current RSVPs are over 275 so far. Please sign up online here and select the site at which you’d like to serve, and thank you for your service!

Faculty and staff visit AT&T

Lastly, Price College was well represented during a visit to AT&T on Friday, Oct. 11, just before the Red River Showdown. AT&T is a longtime partner to the University of Oklahoma and the Price College of Business, under the leadership of Price alumnus Randall Stephenson (Master of Accountancy, 1986), and we are grateful for their ongoing support.

The academic year is off to a great start! Following are just a few examples of how our students, faculty, and staff fulfill the Purpose of Price® every day
