OU team wins at CFA Institute Research Challenge

For the second consecutive year, a University of Oklahoma team won the Oklahoma local competition of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Team Crimson (OU Team 2) won the Feb. 25 competition, after placing first in the presentation phase and second in the written report.

Winning team members were finance majors Noah Andes, Tucker Hastings, Dillon Martin and Max Reed. Faculty mentor Jason Turkiela described them as “absolutely phenomenal.”

OU also placed third in the competition, after team members Benjamin Fugger, Cooper Gidden, Brandon Point and Andrew Truong placed second in the presentation phase and third in the written report.

In all, four teams competed: two from OU, one from the University of Tulsa, and one from Oklahoma City University. The winning team will prepare a submission for the subregional competition set for mid-March. There, the team will face the winning teams from the Missouri-KC, Missouri-St. Louis, Nebraska, and Texas local finals.

Turkiela, assistant professor of finance and director of the CFA Track, served as the faculty mentor for both OU teams. The CFA Institute Research Challenge gives university students the opportunity to gain real-world experience by assuming the role of a research analyst. The CFA Society of Oklahoma presented the local competition at Price College.
