Paying for College
Overview
Many parents and students wonder how they will pay for the cost of a college education. There are many ways to fund an education. Typically, the cost of an education can be funded by one or multiple sources: scholarships, federal, state, private, educational institution, and family sources.
Starting in Fall 2020, the University of Oklahoma began offering up to eleven $3,000 scholarships to assist freshman NROTC students with room and board on a competitive basis. Additionally, each spring, students are recognized at the ROTC Joint Awards Ceremony.
Starting in Fall 2021, nearly $100,000 was distributed to NROTC Midshipman of all classes-- with the overall amount of scholarships increasing year after year.
Apply to Financial Aid
The first and most important step is to determine what type of funding you are eligible for. How do you accomplish this? By filling out a FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA). Regardless of your financial situation, it is highly recommended that you fill out a FAFSA anyways – its FREE and there is no obligation. You do not have to wait to be accepted by an educational institution to submit a FAFSA.
After you complete and submit the FAFSA, expect to receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail, which will list what you qualify for. Schools that you list on the FAFSA will also receive the results. Once you have the Student Aid Report (SAR), contact the Financial Aid Office and you are on your way to funding your education!
