Lieutenant Jacob Glastad was born and raised in Heath, Texas and commissioned from The United States Naval Academy in 2016 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics.
After receiving his commission, LT Glastad completed Nuclear Power School at NNPTC in January of 2017, completed qualifications aboard MTS 626 at NPTU Charleston in December of 2017, and completed Submarine Officer Basic training in March of 2018.
Following the Submarine Officer training pipeline, Lieutenant Glastad received orders for his Division Officer tour to the USS Maine in Bangor, WA, where he reported in April of 2018. During his first year aboard, he served as the Reactor Controls Assistant in the Engineering Department as the USS Maine completed the final year of her Engineered Refueling Overhaul. This included Control Rod Testing, Hot Operations testing, initial Critical Operations Testing on the new Reactor Core, and Seatrials. Lieutenant Glastad then relieved as the Assistant Weapons Officer (AWEPS). As the the AWEPS, he had an integral role in overseeing missile division during Demonstration and Shakedown Operations (DASO). DASO culiminated with the successful test launch of two Trident II D5LE SLBMs. Additionally, he served as the Nuclear Weapons Security Officer and the Anti-Terrorism Officer, overseeing the security of strategic assets.
After his division officer tour, Lieutenant Glastad received orders to the USS San Francisco in Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA. He reported there in February of 2021 to supervise the San Francisco’s Engineered Overhaul and conversion into a Moored Training Ship. In August of 2021, the USS San Francisco was towed to NPTU Charleston. There, LT Glastad served as a Lead Shift Engineer during Hot Operations Testing and Critical Operations testing. In May of 2022 after the completion of all testing and the end of the Engineered Overhaul, the USS San Francisco was officially converted into Moored Training Ship (MTS) 711. Prior to detaching, Lieutenant Glastad worked to establish effective training programs once MTS 711 commenced unrestricted operations, assisting in the qualification of hundreds of future Naval Nuclear Operators.
In September 2022 Lieutenant Glastad reported to the University of Oklahoma NROTC unit and relieved as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science and the Junior/Senior/STA-21 Navy Advisor. He currently teaches Ships System Engineering and Naval Weapon Systems.
Lieutenant Glastad’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various campaign awards.
Lieutenant Glastad currently resides in Norman, OK with his wife Bailey and two children, Dean and Lucy.
